Jennifer R. Farmer

Jennifer R. Farmer is an author, lecturer and strategic communications professional based in Columbus, OH. She works with grassroots leaders, celebrities, and executives who are committed to social good. Farmer is a crisis communications expert, helping a range of leaders navigate high stakes situations. The goal for Farmer and her team is to help leaders navigate challenging situations in ways that protect their current and future selves. They are also committed to helping leaders develop and protect their brands and tell their stories more effectively.
Farmer has made her mark in social justice movements, holding a range of senior leadership positions with national racial justice, labor and faith-based groups. She is the author of “Extraordinary PR, Ordinary Budget: A Strategy Guide (Berrett-Koehler 2017)” and “First and Only: A Black Woman’s Guide to Thriving at Work and in Life (Broadleaf Books 2021 and 2022).” Farmer is the host of the award-winning podcast, Faith Talks, which is a production of United Women in Faith, formerly United Methodist Women.
She has also served as lecturer in the Advanced Academic Programs Department at Johns Hopkins University, inspiring students to appreciate the power of strategic communications. Farmer also lectured at Towson University.
She is a former member of the University of Rochester Board of Trustees’ Diversity Advisory Council, and previously served on the advisory committee for the National Center for State Courts’ Community Engagement in the Courts initiative. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Political Science from the University of Rochester.
When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her children, visiting and reviewing bakeries, and volunteering at her church, Vineyard Columbus.
