Coshandra Dillard
Coshandra Dillard is an award-winning writer with nearly two decades of editorial experience. She began her career as a newspaper journalist, spending most of her time covering health, medicine and health care policy. Coshandra was later a writer and editor for the Learning for Justice program at the Southern Poverty Law Center. There, her work helped educators, students, families and activists create just and equitable spaces in their schools and communities. As a freelancer, she’s written for publications such as NAACP’s The Crisis Magazine, Upscale Magazine and Timeline.
Coshandra has earned numerous awards throughout the years including from Texas Medical Association, Texas Associated Press Managing Editors and Texas Press Association. She was an Association of Health Care Journalists regional fellow for 2014-2015 and a finalist for the National Association of Black Journalists’ Salute to Excellence Awards in 2014. Most recently, the Society of Professional Journalists has recognized her through its Green Eyeshade Awards, a contest that honors the best journalism in the southeastern United States.
Coshandra obtained a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from the University of Texas at Tyler.
