Media pitching is the process of proactively reaching out to reporters, editors, producers and TV hosts to ask them to consider and cover a story, report, event, or activity.
Media pitching can be done via email, phone or text message. It’s important however to determine the journalist’s preferred method for being contacted. For instance, some reporters eschew phone calls, others use social media for personal matters, and some people don’t have a preference for how they are pitched.
The best way to determine a journalist’s preference for being contacted is to ask them, and research their online activity to determine if this is information that they have shared.
