What Happens After You Identify Your Targeted Reporter?

  • Develop a written pitch.
  • Ensure your pitch is free from typos and grammatical errors.
  • Email your pitch to the correct reporter, i.e. the reporter who covers your issue.
  • Follow-up via phone if the reporter does not respond within 1 day.
  • Develop a phone script (what you’ll say when they answer) prior to calling reporters.
  • If you receive a reporter’s voicemail message, leave your pitch on their voicemail. Be sure to include your name and phone number.
