Why Learning to Pivot During Media Interviews is So Important
It is imperative we learn to pivot while conveying credibility and sincerity.
Jennifer R. Farmer
Singer and model Tyla appeared on the popular Breakfast Club Morning Show on June 13, 2024. During the interview she was asked why she referred to herself as colored, as opposed to Black.
Tyla is from South Africa and the term colored has a different connotation in her place of origin than in does in the United States. In the United States, African Americans were referred to as colored prior to the civil rights movement, and the term has negative inferences in 2024. Rather than answering the question, Tyla turned around to her team member who accompanied her to the interview, and that person, who is not shown on camera, tells the hosts that they are not going to answer the question.
